Student Council Update: 2/27/15
The kids of Costello’s Student Council have been focusing their service learning on a project called “Bedtime Bags” during the month of February. This project was designed to reach the needs of homeless children and those who live in shelters around the metro area. To help provide more comfort with a child's nightly routine, our bedtime bags consists of books, hygiene items, blankets and stuffed animals. We believe every child deserves the feeling of love by being read to at night, the feeling of cleanliness with being provided basic hygiene items, and the feeling of security with their very own blanket and stuffed animal. We are thankful for the support from our community to help us reach children in need in the facility. Due to the snow days and cold days, we will be extending our deadline for collecting these items to Thursday, March 5th. Thank you for your support of our student council’s desire to help our community!

Pennies for Pasta
Students last year raised nearly $28 million across the nation to fund breakthrough therapies to save the lives of blood cancer patients.
Funds raised through programs like School & Youth enable the discovery and delivery of therapies that improve the quality of life for patients. In fact, of the 67 new cancer drugs approved by the US Food and Drug Administration since 2000, almost half were approved as significant treatments for patients with blood cancers—and many are now being tested for use in other cancers and diseases.

WHRC Elementary , Pontiac School District
Dear Costello Families,
You may have heard on the news about an elementary school in Pontiac that flooded after several pipes burst over the holiday break. WHRC Elementary suffered extensive damage and students still can’t go back inside the school. After nearly a month at home, the children are now spread out over four different buildings, but all of their classroom supplies were destroyed in the flood.
Our students and staff would like to do something to help. Seven different Troy Elementary Schools have teamed up to send a massive care package to our fellow learners in Pontiac, and we will be collecting supplies beginning the week of February 3rd.
In order to ensure we get what the students at WHRC really need and not have an abundance of any one item, we have split the “wish list” among each of our schools. If you are able to donate, students at Costello are asked to bring any of the following new or unwrapped items to school next week:
We are very proud of our Costello students and staff for wanting to reach out and make a difference!
-Mr. McKinney & Ms. Barry
